Bayside Medical Missions – Ecuador Outreach

Goals for 2008

* To build and equip a Surgical Center in Portoviejo, Ecuador

            A child with a skeletal malformation is challenged to lead a normal life.  His disability affects his capacity to play, interact with peers and go to school.  His self-esteem can be affected and his opportunities for being a contributing member of his society are limited.  After surgical correction, it is heartwarming to see the smile on a childŐs face, and the gratefulness and joy of his parents.

            Many adults are affected by the pain of joint arthritis.  Providing joint replacement surgery will give relief to patients of the older generation allowing them to better enjoy their senior years.

            In 2008 BMM began a project to build a much-needed Surgery Center in Portoviejo, Ecuador.  This center will serve people of all ages who have limited financial resources.  The  center will be fully equipped to provide excellent orthopaedic care.  It will also be used by volunteer doctors of different specialties, as well as by local surgeons. The facility will have an X-ray Department, Comprehensive Laboratory, Image Intensifier and an area of prolonged stay beds for procedures requiring longer recovery times.

The land has been obtained and the groundbreaking ceremony took place in September 2008.
A capital fund drive for the building and equipment is underway.

  Our organizationŐs goal is to provide surgeries by late 2009

In order to accomplish this, we are seeking donations for this fund.

*  To provide Customized Wheelchairs for Special Needs Children

            Severely handicapped children who cannot ambulate are unable to be involved in family activities.  Our goal is to provide mobility for the child, bringing him from the bedroom to the dining room table. He will then be able to participate in family activities, outings and have more opportunities for development.

*  Cost per chair is $150  *

Not only are all donations tax-deductible, but more importantly, they will significantly improve the lives of those receiving this medical care.

CERTIFICATE OF GIFT PROGRAM:   Donations may be made to honor an individual.  A donation to BMM is a gift of love and is appropriate for most special occasions such as birthdays, special holidays, memorials, in lieu of flowers and many personal and corporate events.
